Outside the park you will find the charming village of Allonby, once the home of the Midge fishing fleet. The village has still retained its character and you can while away a pleasant afternoon wandering down the sea front banks. Like thousands before you, you can enjoy a home made ice cream from 'Twentymans'. People come from miles around to do just that !. Then as you stroll back towards Spring Lea, you can take in the beautiful sight across the Solway Firth to the Scottish Hills.
For sports lovers the action starts on the door step as Allonby is well known for Windsurfing and more recently Kite Surfing.
Golf courses abound, Silloth being the most well known, nearby courses at Maryport and Aspatria.

Western Lakes and Coast
Whitehaven boasts various unmissable attractions such as the Beacon, The Rum Story and Haig Colliery Mining Museum. The Muncaster Experience in Ravenglass offers a full day of family excitement with its haunted castle, Owl Centre and much more. Steam enthusiasts mustn’t miss a scenic trip on ‘La’al Ratty’ along the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway. In Maryport there’s the Senhouse Roman Museum and The Lake District Coast Aquarium. At Keswick there’s Trotter’s World of Animals, or how about a tour (and a tasting!) at the Jennings Brewery in Cockermouth. Nearer to Spring Lea there’s Bank Mill Tropical Butterfly House and the Gincase with its Farm park, children’s play area and tasty café!
Carlisle and the Borders
Historic Carlisle is just a 22 mile drive away. Visit its stunning Castle and Tullie House Museum. Or spend a few blissful hours shopping in this bustling city centre. Hadrian’s Wall is also nearby, stretching 73 miles from east to west. Or cross the border to Scotland for a trip to the Old Blacksmith’s Shop at Gretna, famous for its romantic tales of elopement. There’s also the Gretna Gateway Shopping Centre.
